Is God Really Real?

That is the million dollar question that has been discussed and debated by many people for many years.  Is there really a God?  A Creator?  I once heard someone say that is was easier to believe in a Creator than to believe all of this world, all of  us, happened by chance.  But then on the flip side of that, others think it is easier to believe in the scientific facts and proofs over believing there is a Divine Creator.  Believe it or not, faith plays a part in both sides of this argument.

Let us start with the Big Bang Theory.  The Big Bang Theory is the idea that the universe began, or came into being, as just a tiny point (about the size of a marble), but then there was an enormous explosion of energy and light that exploded with extreme force to create the galaxies in our universe.  It is a little hard for me to believe that a galaxy was created from a tiny point by some huge unimaginable force.  Now just bear with me here....what if it was a Creator that caused it to happen that way?  What if a Creator caused a tiny point of the universe to explode into the universal system we have now?

Our solar system is so unique in how the sun stays put while the planets rotate perfectly around the sun, never swaying out of their individual orbits, or bumping into each other, or floating out of the solar system altogether.  Our earth is in the perfect position from the sun for us to live on it--any closer, it would be too hot for us to live; any further away, it would be too cold for us to live.  The earth has the perfect atmosphere to sustain our life.  Our earth rotates on an axis that gives us a perfect 24-hour timeframe with both day and night.  There were so many constants that had to happen in a precise way for our solar system to function like it does. Could all of that have happened by chance?

If the Big Bang did happen, it is hard for me to imagine all the types of life coming into being from that one point.  I may see pieces of dirt, chunks of rock, meteors, and maybe even stars and lifeless planets floating around aimlessly in the universe.  But where would water (something no living creature can live without) have come from?  How could water have gotten its start from nothing? Something can not come from nothing!  We also have birds of the air, creatures of the sea, and all of the animals that live on the land.  How could animal life have started?  How did we get so many varieties of animals?  And my biggest question, what about humans?  How did we become the beings that we are?  Humans are very intelligent beings who also have a conscience and knowledge of what is right and what is wrong.  Could all of that have happened by chance?

What about our amazing human bodies?  We have consciousness.  We have a complex brain that can process tons of information, like a computer, in a split second.  But we also have feelings, such as those of happiness, sadness, anger, concern, uncertainty, pride, fear, love and so many more.  We have a heart that pumps blood from our head to our toes in order to keep us alive. Our complex nervous system allows us to feel and to detect temperature, light and sound.  We have eyes that allow us to see over 50 different objects every second and also allow us to distinguish over 10 million colors.  Could all of that have happened by chance?

And what about language and mathematics?  Where would our world be without either of these?  Language is a very complex system of words, and it is how we communicate, exchange information, and build relationships on a daily basis.  Also, I doubt that a day goes by that we do not use mathematics at some point.  Math is very useful and effective and is used in science, engineering, philosophy, physics, finance, and even sports.  It can be used for just simply counting how many apples you want to buy at the grocery store, or for measuring how long you need to cut something.  It also can be and has been used for more complex uses, such as the building of cities, or the building of the ancient Egyptian pyramids.  What about the mathematical equations that some mathematicians spend years trying to crack?  Could language and math have happened by chance?

History is another area that we can look at. Mohammed (Islam), Buddha (Buddhism), Gandhi (Hinduism) and Confucius (Confucianism) were all great teachers or prophets, and of course, there were others.  They taught to have good virtues and to do good deeds, and even taught some of the same things that Christians are taught from the Bible in Christianity.  But there are two differences from other religions and Christianity.  #1--None of these prophets claimed to be equal to God except Jesus.  In John 14:9, Jesus said, "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father."  That is one thing that sets Jesus apart.  #2--The other thing, a BIG thing, is that Jesus arose from the dead.  Even other historians NOT included in the Bible mention a man named Jesus who did great and wondrous things (miracles), and that many people saw him after he arose from the grave.  Christianity is the only religion with a living savior.  Could that have happened by chance?

The decision to believe whether or not there is a God is all yours to make.  God is not going to force anyone to believe in Him.  But look around at your friends.  Do you have any friends that have a true relationship with Jesus? I do not mean friends that claim to believe in Him and that is as far as it goes.  I mean someone that you know that, without a shadow of a doubt, is a true believer in Jesus Christ and follows his principles daily.  People have said that they notice their Christian friends seem to handle life's problems much better than their non-Christian friends.  As a Christian, I want to tell you that this is because they KNOW they can go to God when things get tough.  They gain their strength from Him.  If you believe in God, your problems, hardships and sufferings are not going to just disappear.  But when you do have those problems, and you will, you have someone you can go to for support, someone who will let you lean on His shoulder and cry, someone who will listen as you talk to Him.

God wants a relationship with us and He wants to give us a more fulfilling life.  Notice I did not say a perfect life, but instead a more fulfilling, more meaningful and more abundant life.  You have probably heard this already, but really think about this comment: If you believe in Christ and you are wrong, what have you lost?  But if you do not believe and GOD IS REAL, then you have lost everything

If you would like to have a relationship with God, all you have to do is ask Him to come into your heart.  In Revelation 20, Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door , and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him."  2 Chronicles 15:2 says, "The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with Him! Whenever you look for Him, you will find Him."

If you would like to make the decision to accept Christ, just pray this prayer:  "Lord, I believe you are who you say you are.  I ask you to forgive me and come into my heart.  I want to know you.  I want to have a relationship with you.  Amen."

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
